Ruth is an experienced coach who works at organisational, team and individual level to enable the shifts necessary for people to develop, perform and achieve their goals. Her industry experience combined with academic studies and extensive coaching practice allows her to work in a way that is stimulating, pragmatic and effective.
Roles within Sales, Marketing, PR and Distribution in the energy sector (Mobil Oil & Esso Petroleum) exposed her to work as diverse as optimising Formula 1 sponsorships, managing a tanker fleet and selling Industrial Lubricants. This variety proved invaluable when she moved into management consultancy initially with Price Waterhouse then independently. Her work on organisational change management programmes covered areas of process redesign, culture change and leadership development within blue chip multinational organisations.
Studying for an MSc in Coaching and Development provided Ruth with an understanding of the theory behind her business and consulting experience. It also gave her an academic framework within which to research and apply her learning. Research projects focused on how coaching supports leadership such as an exploration of the qualities and values required for leadership in complex and uncertain environments and how developing inner freedom can help leaders. Ruth’s research dissertation explored what allows people to adapt and how coaching can enable people to become more adaptable. This continues to be an area of special interest along with resilience.
In addition to her work and research Ruth is a Coach with the 21st Century Legacy charity developing coaching skills in schools as part of the soft legacy from the Olympic Games. She is also a coach for the Marketing Academy developing leadership skills across Marketing, Advertising and Communications.
Ruth is married with three children, two dogs and one husband – usually in that order of priority – and lives in Surrey. She loves skiing, walking and yoga and has recently started participating (as opposed to competing) in Triathlons.
